Milestone achieved – new sprinkler system installed!
It’s done: Our saloon ship, the MS “Gräfin Cosel,” now has a sprinkler system, an automatic fire extinguishing system. Sparkling clean pipes run throughout the ship, and the yellow nozzles hang from flexible metal hoses and are installed in the new ceilings of the saloons. A significant milestone in the renovation of the saloon ship has thus been reached.

But much remains to be done. The new bar location is marked on the floor of the sun deck; nothing more can be seen there yet. The ship’s inspection agency determined that a large section of the ship’s outer skin still needs to be cut out and replaced with a stronger sheet of metal, as it had become too thin. Welders, woodworkers, and metalworkers are busy inside the ship; nothing looks the same as it once did. And in some places, there are lovely still lifes—like this box of screws that accumulated during the removal of furnishings. Or like the loudspeakers, which were taken from the salons and are being reinstalled.
All of this takes place behind more than 700 square meters of plastic film. Not to hide the work, but to make it possible in the first place and at the same time ensure reasonably tolerable working conditions, even in wind and weather.
