L61 – Palace Tour

The castles of Dresden

We depart year-round from the Terrassenufer in Dresden’s Old Town to Pillnitz Castle. During peak season, we even depart up to three times a day. Leaving Dresden’s Old Town, you’ll see the three historic Elbe castles from afar – Albrechtsberg Castle, Lingner Castle, and Eckberg Castle – built over 11 years starting in 1850 on the site of a vineyard.

Continue upriver, passing the famous Loschwitz Bridge, called the “Blue Wonder”, the TV Tower and the boatman’s church “Maria am Wasser”. Then we approach the fourth, probably the most famous castle, Pillnitz Palace. It is considered one of the most important chinoiserie castle complexes in Europe. In the past, the palace and park were the summer residence of Saxon kings, including Elector Augustus the Strong. A visit to this extraordinary place with its magnificent park, the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Orangery and the many palaces is always worthwhile!

Are you planning a stay at Pillnitz Palace & Park? Then how about a detour to the Pillnitz Elbblick – from there you have a great view of our steamers docking in Pillnitz!
