“August the Strong” – Construction progress at the Laubegast shipyard
A lot has happened at the Laubegast shipyard in recent weeks, and we’re making good progress with the conversion of the saloon ship “August der Starke”! Numerous projects have already been completed, while work is diligently underway in many other areas. Step by step, the ship is taking on its new shape – high time for an update!
A key milestone was the positioning of the wastewater collection tanks, which will ensure smooth operations on board in the future. At the same time, the foundations for the emergency diesel engine and the sprinkler tank were built – essential elements for the safety and functionality of the ship. The associated piping for the suction of the sprinkler pumps has already been cut and aligned and is now awaiting final welding.
Visually, progress is also being made: The tent poles have now been completely painted, the radar mast has been installed, and the windows in the conference room have been removed to thoroughly derust the frames. At the same time, sprinkler lines have been installed in several rooms, and the new railings on board have been painted black—another detail that contributes to the ship’s new look.

Significant progress was also made below the waterline: The underwater hull was painted, as was the changing gangway. Furthermore, the hull continues to be derusted, particularly on the pillars. Everything in the entrance area on the starboard side has already been sealed, while cables are still being laid on the port side.
And these are just some of the many jobs currently being done at the shipyard – welding, painting, and modernization work is taking place everywhere!
Each of these steps brings us closer to our goal: a modernized and stylish saloon ship that will soon be available again for unforgettable trips across the Elbe.
