A “house” for a ship

Our saloon ship, the “Gräfin Cosel,” is just over 75 meters long, making it about three meters longer than the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the A380. She’s now housed in a “house” that’s even slightly longer. Scaffolders have erected it, and it will be covered with foil and then kept warm. Work on the ship will continue in this special “house.”
Visible changes and more invisible ones are currently taking place. Among the visible ones is the redesign of the bow of the ship. The bar has been installed on the lower deck and is being moved toward the entrance, creating more space for passengers who will enjoy the view forward and on both sides in our “Panorama Bar.” Above, the “Fine Dining Club” is being built, a space for particularly exclusive enjoyment. Perhaps the right place to board in tails and evening dress in the future.
The scaffolding “house” is also necessary to begin the paintwork on the almost 30-year-old saloon boat. Once the experts have started working with spray guns and brushes, we will, of course, report on it and show how the saloon boat is doing with its new look.
It goes without saying that even rooms inside the saloon ship that would otherwise never be of particular interest are being renovated – the toilets and parts of the galley, for example. Work on the new sewage system is progressing in the ship’s belly, and preparations are being made for the installation of a sprinkler system in the four saloons. The sprinkler system is truly new; the ship has never had anything like it before. Improved fire protection for greater safety.
About a quarter of the time we planned for the ship’s conversion has now passed. The “new” ship is scheduled to participate in the naval review on May 1st.
