Boat trip from Dresden to Meissen

The boat trip from Dresden to Meißen on the Saxon Wine Route is a wonderful experience. Why?
Our historic paddle steamer fleet is the oldest and largest in the world. While on board you can watch the paddle wheels in action. This is visible to all guests. The sound of the waves is one that will anchor in the memory. You will not only experience the trip with your eyes, but also with your nose and ears. The Saxon wine route offers a unique landscape. It goes past small churches, and vineyards which produce quality Saxon wines. The vantage point of the water offers a unique view of the city of Meissen and its unique towering Albrechtsburg. A boat trip between Dresden, Meißen and the tranquil Elbe wine village of Diesbar-Seusslitz is unforgettable.

A steamboat trip to Meissen

The journey downriver begins in the morning in the center of Dresden. The Saxon Wine Route leads past Radebeul, a place steeped in history, to Meissen. The “porcelain and wine town” of Meissen can be reached by boat trip at mid day. From there there are some sights to discover. The most obvious is the Albrechtsburg. As well as events, conferences and celebrations, various exhibitions take place at Albrechtsburg, and you can experience the magnificent interior. Have you ever seen “white gold”? Meissen is famous for it – because this “white gold” is made right here! This is known to many as porcelain, and you can marvel at it in show workshops, watching over the shoulder of artists.

Boat trip to the heart of the Saxon Wine Route

The heart of the Saxon Wine Route is only a one-hour boat ride downstream from Dresden. There you will find Radebeul, the “city to enjoy”. Here beautiful vineyards and idyllically situated half-timbered houses combine with exciting Karl May stories and opportunities for hiking. Experience a part of this on a guided city tour. For connoisseurs, a trip to Wackerbarth castle and the wines of the same name is recommended. There are of course daily wine tastings and guided tours. For art lovers, Altkötzschenbroda is a special place to visit. Especially the center, which invites you to a relaxing stroll among its restored half-timbered buildings housing numerous galleries, cafés and pubs. For adventure-loving families a visit the Karl May Museum is a must. It offers not only permanent and special exhibitions, but also various events and activities. Children are guided through the museum by special holiday programmes, and independent exploration tours with “Karl’s discovery suitcase”.

Family excursion: Boat trip from Dresden to Meissen

A family excursion is something special. A boat trip is not only a relaxing experience for adults. Even the little ones cannot ignore the fascination of a steamship. The paddle wheels can be observed through the windows. In the centre of the ship the exposed steam engines astonish guests. See our tariffs for discounts such as “BIG & small”.

The boat trip from Dresden to Meisen is a perfect route, offering both family attractions on land as well as the river experience. Following the steamboat trip to Meissen, the “Meissen porcelain” awaits. Creative workshops regularly take place here, and the museum can be discovered through a treasure hunt. Do you know if you can hear or taste porcelain? Find out with the “guidance of the senses”, when the “white gold” is explored in a variety of ways.

There are family tours at Albrechtsburg, on which you can also learn about the background of porcelain production. Because the castle is considered the first production facility in Europe. During the holidays there are special tours – holiday fun for royal children! There are also numerous exhibitions that are suitable for both young and old. Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live in a castle?
